I’d bet this is a testament to just how bad this fire season has been. It’s cool to see this thing still working after so long, but I can imagine the guys running out to the bay and scratching their heads when they realized this was the only truck left.

Whatever works, I guess. Those things were built like tanks, and I'm sure it's been impeccably maintained, probably just as good now as it was in 1942

The pump and associated gear may be even better than new. If they knew it might eventually actually be used they very well may have upgraded the working components instead of just restoring it.

Could’ve been an,”investment” to restore it for this very purpose. Alot of illegal weed gro w ers will plumb fire hose gauges into their watertanks.( usually are sitting on vast sums of water)

Still younger than many of the fire bombing aircraft

It’s very fitting with the almost natural sepia tone that comes from the fires.

Also here is a good spot for me to post this photo from a local fire authority fighting a 60 acre fire

I’d bet they were forced into upgrades. Old pumps would have gone bad and doing a one off refurbishment may have cost more than a new pump with tweaking to make it connect up with the older stuff.

Possible all the internal guts of the water equipment are pretty new.

Throw everything you’ve got at it. I like that mentality.

Given the number of wineries affected, I suppose it’s “vintage vineyard protected by vintage firetruck..”?

I prefer seeing this as opposed to spending $100,000 or more for an extra brush fire style truck that might only be used every 4-5 years.

Something like this is over a million. So, I’d say your $100,000 pricing is very low. FYI, the truck in the image below caught on fire during a training exercise before it was ever put in to service.

I was envisioning a much smaller rig designed for brush fire work. Basically an F-550 with a pump system and small tank.

List price on one of these is $247,858, so your $100k is probably still low.

Every four or five months buying a new one to replace the vehicle heat damaged beyond likely repair.

I think that is what you meant and it came out wrong.

This is a brush fire truck. At the LA Auto Show one year I remember we did a fire vehicle company, they had huge F3 50s with all the crazy stuff and they were over $300k.

Those are the on road trucks, some of the ones we had in the display area had military wheels with on the fly compressors like we had in the Marines. All kinds of stuff, they are like fire battle tanks on Ford chassis.

It’s crazy that this needs to happen, but I do like seeing this old piece of equipment get to do its job again. Most old firetrucks just end up going to the occasional parade, it’s nice that this one’s actually seeing some action.

Nothing is cheap when it come to new fire equipment. Used fire trucks that have been decom missioned can be picked up relatively cheap.

Ah as a jar head I know the LMTV well. I was thinking of getting one for a while. Has to be the cheapest way to make a Unimog style camper. You can get a rough one for under $20k and a really nice one for under $40k, plenty of parts and no big deal to work on. My Dodge was a MA federal fire truck after the Army and Corps of Engineers.

Something simple like this can’t be too over the top. I’m sure it all depends on the level of finish inside the box, solar power system and the amount of electronics.  Seems too big for places I’d like to go, but I guess mounting a motorcycle out back would be a simple solution.

I know a surfer with one, his is pretty simple for now, but he can drive to Scorpion Bay, Mexico with no problem.

I love that this one is called the Bantha

And if you get the 6x6 you could bump up the square footage quite a bit with expanding sides. I suppose you could with the 4x4, depends on needs and wants. My friend has boat equipment in it, stove, shower and a composting toilet he can bring outside with an enclosure. The shower has a long handle and can go out the window for an outdoor shower. But it’s all pretty simple, he plans on putting a bamboo floor in it this winter.

Speaking of vineyards, anyone of those in CA that hasn't bought their own used JDM fire truck, or a fleet of them, should probably think about getting on that
